Ambassador of Venezuela, Alfredo Toro Hardy, graciously accepted to be an Honorary Co-Chair of the two events that The Americas Foundation (TAF) is organizing to launch its most ambitious project, to build and operate "La Casa de las Americas in Washington"® (LACAW).
The two events are: The Americas Heritage Festival2000 and The Americas Heritage Gala2000.
The Americas Heritage Festival (AHEFE) will take place Saturday and Sunday, September 16-17, 2000, on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Americas Heritage Gala2000 (AHEGA) will take place Sunday evening, October 15, 2000, at the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts.
Victor Pinzon, President of the Foundation is inviting all of LACAW's Honorary Founding Members to join Ambassador Toro Hardy as Honorary Co-Chairs. As Honorary Co-Chairs the Foundation hopes that they can lend their ideas, support and help through their relationships in Washington, throughout the United States, Latin America and beyond to make LACAW's dream a wonderful reality.
The purpose of the two events is multifold, says Pinzon. The two events are designed to launch the promotion and fund raising of our ambitious project to build and operate La Casa de las Americas in Washington. They will be the first major events of many more to come throughout cities in the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and other countries. Additionally, the events will serve:
To celebrate our rich diverse Americas heritage and bring our diverse ethnic communities together, to work, achieve and live together
To promote and raise the awareness of Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Hispanic Latinos
To promote the Metropolitan Washington area throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and Hispanic Latinos within the US
To promote the numerous programs and services TAF offers with local, national and hemispheric impact.
To establish new strategic partnerships and strengthen our existing ones such as "La Casa de las Americas" Gift Fund that we established at the Smithsonian Institution in 1999, and, To start LACAWs exciting bricks and tiles marketing and sales program, another unique source of fund raising to build LACAW.
We have been working and planning the logistics and complex details of these events for over two years, says Pinzon. He also asserts that we have the professional experience and know-how to plan, organize, and implement successfully these events. Yet, we invite anyone motivated and exited to join as volunteers in our numerous planning committees that provide a synergy of valuable and rewarding opportunities. Also, we invite corporate sponsors, particularly all those entities that are substantially benefiting from their involvement in the Hispanic and Latin American markets and communities. LACAW and these planned events serve for those entities to show their corporate social responsibility and commitment to said markets and communities. In addition, we will provide to our sponsors a valuable package of benefits.
We are very grateful and delighted that the world renown The Washington Ballet is strongly supporting LACAW. As such The Washington Ballet agreed to give us a benefit performance for LACAW as part of our Gala at the Kennedy Center on October 15.
